There are more wars, more crime than ever before.
Standards have dropped and the news generally have adopted a problematical attitude.
Good news we say is not news!
The old or gold standards of courtesy, kindness has disappeared. ‘When I was young it was never like that’ we hear people say. There was respect for others, you offered your seat to the elderly and children were taught to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.
There are more marital break ups, more people dying of cancer and there seems to be an increase in the number suffering from depression and anxiety.
But my role as a career coach hears a different less extremist voice. It is a case of balance. A case of perception against reality and often what we hear is what we want to hear.
My experience as a career coach is more in tune with this humorous poem. Don’t be cranky!
Has the world gone mad or is it only just me.
Bad news now daily can’t see wood for the trees.
All wars, all murders, all gone to the dogs.
Negativity just normal, good news just a fog
Is it really that bad that depressive that bleak?.
Or is it newscasters' spin and the content they seek
I'm happy, not fighting, not shouting or mad
Just content with the lot or dare say even glad
So ignore the bad news the distorted and spin
Lock out the crankies and who knows, you might grin
